So here's the good news, I've found work (and no, I am not selling Frosted Flakes). Well it is part time work, but work is work and I'm happy to have it. I'm still looking for something in my field and I've managed to identify a niche that I would be really interested in...construction training. The challenge with a job search in this economy, getting through the web portal and speaking with a real human being. Earlier this week, just about as I'm about to lose hope, a glimmer of light shines through. 45 minutes or so after an early morning session in front of my keyboard, I got an email from one of the employers asking me to complete a position paper and have it in by mid-week next week...YES! (before 8am no less...that is as my buddy JK would say a, "good-good") I've got it done, it is now at the proof-readers and the plan is to get it, another copy of my resume/cover letter, and some letters of recommendation off first thing Saturday morning (see Mr Future Boss-man, I can meet/exceed a deadline).
Those letters of recommendation are humbling to read. I'm just blown away at what some of the people that I respect the most have shared about me with comments like, "We learned that he not only grasped the difficult, but could handle most anyone he came into contact with; Engineers, Architects, Developers, and the nail bag framer in the field. They all liked working with him and respected his can do attitude and caring." Another said, "On many occasions I have been an audience member of the training that Tim has developed and conducted for Toastmasters International. Tim's session were always informative, engaging, and fun. He has consistently developed a rapport with the participants while maintaining his position as someone whom we could gain knowledge from while in training."
With endorsements like that, how can a guy go wrong? Just as I start to stop believing in myself, leave it to my closest friends and mentors to pick me up, dust me off and tell me to, "Go get 'em, tiger."
Congrats, Tim! Having work, even part time, is SO much better than not.
