Admittedly, I haven't felt like posting anything lately. Emotionally, I just couldn't deal with it in the wake of the funeral...then, when I was wanting to write something, the old body just wouldn't cooperate and allow me out of bed long enough to sit in front of the laptop. Now that I think I might be finally getting over the "black death" that followed me back home from my little trip up to Maine, I'll take a moment and update you all on a few things.
Since I'm using my lunch break to get this up in a hurry, I'll go ahead and share with you what I'm "noshing" on today. Of course it is from my favorite store, fresh & easy and I just polished off my Orange Chicken with Jasmine Rice and now I'm enjoying one of my favorite sides, the Wasabi Edamame. The Orange Chicken was okay...not a whole lot of chicken and it was breaded...I would have preferred a bit more chicken of the non-breaded variety, but hey overall it still beats any fast-food I get by the office or just about any other micro-zap lunch that is out there. At least I can actually pronounce the names of the ingredients that the chain used to create this...try doing that with your Brand "X" frozen entree. The Wasabi is a perfect afternoon snack, and although I already started to enjoy it, I'll wind up grazing on it the rest of the afternoon.
The trip back home for my Grandmother's funeral was "interesting" to say the least. If you've seen the great movie classic, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" then you have some idea of how much fun it was to try and get out of Portland, Maine (PWM) the weekend before Christmas with snow storms bearing down on everything. Although I was confirmed on a Continental flight out of PWM on Sunday, I found a seat on a US Airways Express flight down to Washington, DC (DCA) so I got to spend Saturday night at the Hyatt near Reagan National. Although I wound up spending nearly $600 extra to do all that (between the plane ticket and the room) it was so worth it when I found out that Continental did indeed wind up canceling the flight I was on and I wouldn't have gotten home until sometime Christmas Eve if I had stayed. The most fun was on Friday night when my Dad wanted to out out for dinner. Scoping out the scene from the window, it didn't seem too bad, so I loaded him and his walker into the rental car (by the way, thanks for the free upgrade Hertz...I so knew that Gold status would pay off one day) and we started up US Route 1 from Bath for the 15 or so mile drive to Montsweag Roadhouse for our dinner. Two hours later I walk out to the car to find another freaking eight inches of snow on the darn thing. The road back to Bath totally sucked and it was pretty much navigation by memory (thank goodness for going up and down that dang road for like a zillion times growing up)...getting back to Bath, my father finally decided that he did indeed want to go to Shaws for some groceries. Of course, he didn't decide until after I was committed in an icy, uncontrolled slide down the off ramp from the bridge back to his place...my mistake was not asking him for the umpteenth time before we got to the darn bridge. I'm sure we made quite a site in Shaws, me pushing around the store in one of those wheelchair shopping carts, loading it up to the gills with items...ahh, memories! Needless to say, I am grateful to be back in Phoenix...
Finally, I'll close this post with this...I heard Aimee Mann on my XM radio this morning with a kick butt acoustic version of that great 80's classic, "Voices Carry". Which happened to be the first ever CD I bought back in the day...While I could find that version on You Tube to share with you all, I did find the video that you might have seen on MTV (you know, back when they actually aired music videos)...I'll have to get on iTunes later and see if I can find the version I heard this morning.
Enjoy...
